Preference-based belief operators

چکیده
We show how different kinds of belief operators derived from preferences can be defined in terms an accessibility relation of epistemic priority, and characterized by means of a vector of nested accessibility relations. The semantic structure enable us to compare and reconcile certain non-standard notions of belief that have recently been used in epistemic analyses of games.

Double preference relations for generalised belief change
Many belief change formalisms employ plausibility orderings over the set of possible worlds to determine how the beliefs of an agent ought to be modified after the receipt of a new epistemic input. While most such possible world semantics rely on a single ordering, we investigate the use of an additional preference ordering—representing, for instance, the epistemic context the agent finds itsel...
متن کامل(Dis)Belief Change Based on Messages Processing
This paper focuses on the features of belief change when agents have to consider information received from other agents. We focus on belief change operators when agents have to process messages about a static world. We propose to consider agents’ belief state as a set of pairs 〈belief, origin of the belief〉 combined with a preference relation over the agents embedded in the multi-agent system. ...
متن کاملHandling Sequences of Belief Change in a Multi-agent Context
This paper focuses on the features of belief change in a multiagent context. Agents have to consider information received from the other agents and the ability of how to change beliefs after receiving a message is a prerequisite for many multi-agents problems. The agents are embedded in an environment where they are communicating and they have to prevent potential internal conflicts in their be...
متن کاملDynamic logic for belief revision
We show how belief revision can be treated systematically in the format of dynamicepistemic logic, when operators of conditional belief are added. The core engine consists of definable update rules for changing plausibility relations between worlds, which have been proposed independently in the dynamic-epistemic literature on preference change. Our analysis yields two new types of modal result....
متن کاملFrom Belief Change to Preference Change
Various tasks need to consider preferences in a dynamic way. We start by discussing several possible meanings of preference change, and then focus on the one we think is the most natural: preferences evolving after some new fact has been learned. We define a family of such preference change operators, parameterized by a revision function on epistemic states and a semantics for interpreting pref...
